RVNG Intl. to reissue Bing & Ruth’s debut City Lake

Post Author:

Ambient producer David Moore’s origin story as Bing & Ruth has very grand roots, though most of the world might not be familiar with the outfit’s debut. Before Bing & Ruth’s halcyonic opus, Tomorrow Was the Golden Age, there was City Lake, an 11-member orchestral production that was pressed in “unusually limited edition” five years ago. Consisting of two clarinetists (Jeremy Viner and Patrick Breiner), two cellists (Greg Heffernan and Leigh Stuart), two vocalists (Becca Stevens and Jean Rohe), a bassist (Jeff Ratner), a lap-steel player (Myk Freedman), a tape-delay engineer (Mike Effenberger), a percussionist (Chris Berry), and Moore on piano, City Lake is the brick & mortar beginnings to Bing & Ruth’s ethereal digital landscape.

As the story goes, the folks over at RVNG Intl. were accidentally given a test-pressing of City Lake at the time of its release. After many listens, they reached out to Moore, and put in motion a proper re-release. The reissue of City Lake will feature bonus tracks, new mastering, and coincide with a few rare live performances of the material later this fall. Though the original was unusually so, the reissue will still be released as a limited edition double LP, as well as CD and digital on November 13.
