PutItOn.com and New York Film Academy Online film festival

We usually don't crush on contests, but this idea seems destined for greatness… at least for the few lucky winners.

PutItOn.com and the New York Film Academy have launched a worldwide online film festival to provide filmmakers, beyond the realm of Hollywood, the opportunity to showcase their work globally and compete against other filmmakers for top awards. The contest was started by artists for artists, which means it will be judged by your peers (imagine how the Oscars would turn out if the actors got to vote). More important than winning, PutItOn is offering a platform for independent filmmakers to reach a global audience.

The site is available in ten different languages and each contestant gets 1GB of free storage online where entrants can also sell their films. The competition is open for new entries until December 31, while public voting will continue until January 28. Prizes will be awarded for Best Feature, Best Short and Best Achievement in acting with the winners announced on February 18.

And what might you win? The winners in each category will receive $5,000 USD and a free scholarship to the New York Film Academy. Runner-ups get an HD pro-sumer digital video camera.

For more information (or to check out some sweet Russian animation), visit the PutItOn website. And if you enter, let us know, we might just throw a few votes your way.
