Hardcore heaven via impeccable new music from Turnstile, DRAIN, Chubby and the Gang & more
In just the past week, the music gods have gifted us with a truly heavenly dose of hardcore. Igniting the flames are Baltimore titans Turnstile, whose impeccable new album GLOW ON is genre-defining work that has galvanized the scene and will continue to do so for years to come. There’s also English shit-kickers Chubby and the Gang, whose swaggering new batch of sped-up pub-punk anthems The Mutt’s Nuts leads the charge across the Pond. And then there’s the fearsome crop of Santa Cruz-San Jose hardcore and metalcore bands like Gulch, Sunami and DRAIN, the latter act having just dropped the gnarled ripper “Watch You Burn.”
But of course, a little bit of everything else pops up on this month’s Impose YouTube mix, including tunes from a trio of SoCal DIY punk bands who are killing it right now: Deep Yogurt, Strawberry Army, and The Flourescents. Meanwhile, this past weekend’s Reading & Leeds Festivals marked the comeback for large-scale music events in the UK, and we’ve got live clips from Disclosure and Stormzy to prove it. And now almost a decade after its release, indie pop legends Cults blessed us with a gorgeously haunting video for fan-favorite single “Always Forever.”
