2014 College Football Playoff Preview

Post Author:

It’s that time of year where unpaid labor gets to compete for the pinnacle of amateur status while universities rake in loads of cash! That’s right it’s College Bowl season. Except this year we are actually treated to a playoff system between the top four teams. And though there will still be arguments about which teams should make it, after all these years of nonsense, at least we get something. So let’s break down that something.

No 2. Oregon Ducks vs No. 3 Florida State Seminoles

2014 heisman trophy winner

This matchup will pit the past two Heisman Trophy winners against each other. Marcus Mariota had 38 touchdowns and only two interceptions to lead the Ducks’ high-scorching offense on his way to the title of college’s best player in 2014. FSU’s Jameis Winston, who took home the trophy last year, had 24 touchdowns, but an eyebrow-raising seventeen interceptions, while leading the ‘Noles to a series of seemingly endless comeback wins. Florida State’s defense has played a big part in that, holding teams when needed, but it will see it’s biggest test against an Oregon team that has beaten their last seven opponents by an average of 18 points. The likelihood of limiting a QB who has only coughed up the ball twice all season is slim. I think Oregon wins, adding yet another notch in Mariota’s Heisman year.

No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide vs No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes

Alabama football meme

Ohio State looks to keep their streak of losing to SEC teams in the final game of the season intact. The Buckeyes are starting a freshman quarterback due to injuries and while he helped put up 59 points against Wisconsin, the Badgers are not in the same defensive league as the Tide. Alabama are one of those annoying teams that you can never count out, even though it seems everyone outside of the state really, really wants to. Nick Saban will draw up some game plan that will keep them in it, regardless of how well the Buckeyes play, so expect another week of fans touting SEC dominance.
