Sylvan Esso, “Coffee”

Vocalist Amelia Meath and electronic musician Nick Sanborn make up the curious duo that is Sylvan Esso. On “Coffee,” from their upcoming 12″, Meath's whistle-clean voice, also a fixture in her folk group Mountain Man, has the peaceful familiarity of the 90s female vocalists we all grew up (sometimes guiltily) worshipping. Her smooth alto perfectly inhabits the delicate pulse of Sanborn's dupsteppy electronic world, and there's nothing retro about it. A follow-up to the acclaimed Hey Mami/Play it Right 12″, their new release will feature both a capella and instrumental versions of the A and B side tracks, “Coffee” and “Dress.”

The Coffee/Dress 12″ comes out March 25 on Partisan Records. Find the subtle beauty of “Coffee” streaming below.
