White Fence's first show, LiPo Lounge, SF

White Fence

It was Thursday May 20 in Chinatown
SF’s LiPo
Lounge with an extensive bill featuring the Babies, Brilliant Colors,
Grass
Widow and the illustrious White Fence. My fascination with WF’s recent
Make a
Mess
self-titled release piqued my interest in experiencing their first
live
gig.

Using the drum kit and other miscellaneous items
and
implementations of instruments belonging to Grass Widow, White Fence
took to
the single light bulb lit stage with its Strawberry Alarm Clock
eat-your-heart-out rocker, “Mr. Adams.” Not stopping to finish the song,
Tim
and Sean Paul Presley swiftly went into the raver “Who Feels Right,”
followed
by a freak beat version of “The Love Between.”
After some impeccable harmonization from the Presley brothers, they
exploded
into the roughed up “Baxter Corner,” then a new Byrds-y song called
“Growing
Faith.” Next up was the ragged “Destroy Everything,” then a brand new
jam
possibly inspired by the Who’s “My Generation” called “Got that Heart.”
The
brothers brought back the punk with
“Box Disease/Today Bond,” then treated the huddled, sweaty
basement
masses with a Psychocandy-era Jesus and Mary Chain infused new
song
called “Enthusiasm.” The finale was the beautiful “Sara Snow,” it was
the only
slow jam played during the set and it captured the hearts of everyone in
the
oxygen-deprived subterranean room.

The three new songs “Growing Faith,” “Got that
Heart” and
“Enthusiasm,” hint at the future possibilities of things to come from
White
Fence. Patiently we will have to wait, stay tuned!
