courtship. Shares New Track, Talks Early Love For Avril

Post Author: Meredith Schneider

When you think of a smooth blend of R&B and electronic music, courtship. might be one of those acts that comes to mind first. At least, that’s what the Spotify stats would indicate, as the duo of Eli Hirsch and Micah Gordon has gotten more spins than God with some of their latest stuff. So it’s safe to say that they’ve taken over 90’s R&B as our generation’s sexy party music providers. If you’re not sure why, check out their debut single that’s been heard ’round the world below. And then read our all-too-quick interview with the pair.

What is the official courtship. origin story?

We met through playing in the same band in April. Eli saw Micah walk in the room to practice for the first time and thought “Is he a douche? I don’t know”. Turned out he wasn’t. And then we made music together.

What was the first record/song you remember hearing, and who introduced it to you?

Eli: My mom bought be Avril Lavigne’s Let Go when I was 6. I really wanted to be her boyfriend but I was 6. So I decided i wanted to wrote songs instead to get her attention.

Micah: my first musical obsession was the Backstreet Boys’ Black and Blue so my parents took me to their concert and I was horrified by how loud it was.

What made you choose to pursue music? Did you have an aha moment?

Eli: True story, I was in the jungle in South America “finding myself” when I was 17, had just gotten typhoid fever and almost chopped my hand off with a machete and I decided the outdoors weren’t for me, so music was the next obvious choice.

Micah: When I was a kid, I absolutely hated piano lessons, as most kids do. But when I heard someone play the blues at this recital, I immediately fell in love.

Your new single “Love For Everyone” is a breath of fresh air, especially during this time in history. What, specifically, inspired the track?

Thanks, the timing of the release was really interesting because we had written the song months before the election, and as most of us, expected a different outcome. At least now, the song can serve a greater purpose than what it was originally written about…just listen to the lyrics.

Do you have any advice for people who may be going through a tough time right now?

For us, listening to music we love takes our mind off of life’s stresses. But for other people, it may be something else. Start small, and don’t expect there to be some immediate fix, because that doesn’t exist.
Also, we watch David Blaine videos. He’s a freak and it’s awesome. David if you’re reading this, we’d like to hire you for a Bar Mitzvah.

What color would you describe your day as?

Yellow.

Who is your favorite Disney character? Substantiate your claim.

Sneezy, from Snow White because sneezing feels incredible.

What can we look forward to from you two?

Tons of new music in the new year, touring, fun times, love for everyone.
