Premiere: M. Women, “Dark Side”

The song "Dark Space" starts out poppier and gains more jam as we go through it. The dual vocalists are describing a scene with words, which seems really basic "You can't see/ Wood is brown/House is blue/Me and you/Hanging around", while playing a pretty basic eight measure refrain and then inserting a drum fill. The video, too, goes along with this simplicity: it's black and white eight millimeter footage of a cemetary. But then we get a time change, a shift into a more intense sound, and the vocals pretty much end. Now the band is describing the scene with music. And the video shifts in a surprising direction, too, becoming a gooey, colorful, detritus-filled collage.

"Dark Space" is available off the record Faithful on Couple Skate in Seattle, where the band is from as well. You can listen here and buy here.
