Gabe Gill, "BOYS"

Post Author: Andre G

Northhampton, Massachusetts artist Gabe Gill is steadily making a name for himself. His melodic brand of hip-hop pulls from myriad influences such as rock and R&N. He’s one of the new artists most skillfully showing the sonic elasticity of hip-hop, and his latest “BOYS” track showcases just that.
“When do boys start to feel like men?/When a man feels like more is expected of them,” he autotunes croons over an upbeat, rock-leaning soundscape. The minimalist video showcases Gabe dancing amidst a backdrop of VHS quality clips of him, including his childhood moments before the burden of manhood’s expectations bore down on him. Though the production is ripe for a buoyant, sunny track, Gill reflects on the missteps he’s made while maturing and what they mean for the people around him.
The creative video, which you can view above, was crafted by Gill along with Evan Carson and Jacob Bridgman.
