Man Forever, “Surface Patterns”

Man Forever is the project of Oneida's Kid Millions and a partner named John Colpitts. Kid is one of the best drummers in New York, if not America, if not the world, so it's a no-brainer that it would be a rhythm-focused project. Specifically, Kid is focusing on the drumroll here. The roll is continued throughout the song, and after listening to the maintained beat you start to see inside of it, in the middle of the quick beats, inside the tent they are building over your head. So maybe that's why Kid and other members of his Man Forever project make donuts in this video: because the beat is a round thing and you don't notice the holes until you carve them out yourself.

Man Forever's new full length Pansophical Cataract is available May 15 on Thrill Jockey.
