Princess Nokia, “Nokia”

Post Author: Sandra Song

Impose favorite and holographic dream queen Princess Nokia goes all early aughts nostalgia in a new video for her Metallic Butterfly single, “Nokia”.

And like every tween’s dream, the rainbow-hued video is complete with clips from the Proud Family, Michiko to Hatchin and Taina (Blue Mascara, anyone?), as well as a plethora of iBook clamshells, wraparound shades and old school computer animation. Swirling, slightly menacing and incredibly infectious, she makes limitless visual and pop cultural references familiar to anyone who grew up with a decent cable package and a love of robopets à la Christmas 2000.

And as if this ear candy couldn’t get any sweeter, Nokia’s also accompanied by an all-star slumber party crew made up of other rising NYC-based rap talent including K Rizz, Dai Burger and Junglepussy. Because while dELiA*s and Poo-chis may be a thing of the past, Princess Nokia is making sure that other aspects of throwback culture are still alive a well.
