Protomartyr, “Want Remover”

Post Author: Liz Pelly

The prickly lyricism of Protomartyr’s 2014 record, Under Color of Official Right, tends to conjure vivid images, but never quite this bizarre. For the band’s new video for “Want Remover”, they had director Hanly Banks attend an “ecstatic dance” meeting at an Austin yoga studio. The song is set to slow-motion footage of dozens of people moving through awkward, expressive moves. It’s a strange but surprisingly apt visual for “Want Remover”, a song that seems to pick at ideas about how consumerism trick us into feeling fulfilled. Watch it above. The band has also announced new tour dates, which are below.
