Robert J. Hunter, "Hurricane"

Post Author: Kat Harding

Robert J. Hunter recently stopped by the Amwell Collective stage to showcase his latest single, dirty blues ballad “Hurricane” off his album Blistering Soul. The London-based singer-songwriter found previous success in 2015 when his single “Demons” from his debut album Songs for the Weary topped the UK iTunes Blues Chart. He’s also been crowned the winner of the International Songwriting Competition in 2017, bringing the title home for the track “Preacher,” which was chosen from 16,000 entries.
“Hurricane” highlights a similar strength of writing, pairing familiar beats with his gravely voice for an unforgettable modern take on bluesy rock n’ roll. The work he does with just his guitar could put many full bands to shame, as he rocks this whole track by himself. The track conjures images of the Wild West, with heartbreak scattered in the dirt with the tumbleweeds, more of a dust storm than a coastal weather event, but you catch my drift. The country inspired tune should be enjoyed with a glass of whiskey while wearing a pair of cowboy boots with the volume turned way up.
