Slothrust, “No Eye Candy”

Slothrust's third single, "No Eye Candy," off their new album Of Course You Do (Ba Da Bing Records), now has the video counterpart it heartily deserves; created and performed by Chessy Normile. Vocalist/Guitarist Leah Wellbaum penned the song when she was 18, taking inspiration from her complicated feelings toward Britney Spears' youth-ending python dance at the 2001 VMAs. The song's protagonist is reacting to the dark side of pop celebrity culture, as it's known so often to spawn high-net-worth tween sociopaths. Normile uses claymation and stop-motion photography brilliantly to render these thematic horrors visually, while also cultivating humor and charm in the scenario.
