The Garment District, “Cavendish on Whist”

Post Author: David Miller

The Garment District’s (aka Pittsburgh based multi-instrumentalist Jennifer Baron) debut LP, If You Take Your Magic Slow, dropped this week and “Cavendish on Whist” is a taste of jolty, moogy surrealism garnished into her experimental body of work.

True, it’s hard to make heads or tails of anything about the track, but if you look at the slippery tune in conjunction with its now released video, the pastoral psychedelia takes form. Word and sound match so well here, both glitched-out as can be and desperately unnerving. With The Garment District’s more palatable and quite summery pysch-pop of  “Secondhand Sunburn” placed next to the anxiety-riddled confusion of “Cavendish” and, only two songs in, you’ve already got one versatile album.

If You Take Your Magic Slow is out now via Night-People.
