Wounded Lion, “Going Into The Unknown

Video by Jimmy Chertkow

Wounded Lion's video for "Going Into The Unknown" begins with a disclaimer stressing that the band is not endorsing the occult. What follows is found footage of figure skaters, manta rays, half-time line dance performances and clips of Lew Alcindor becoming the great Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The menacing and sludgy bassline coupled with deadpan and paranoid vocals hits closer to the occult mark than the images presented, but maybe there's an underground issue in LA over the burning of palm trees beyond the natural forest fires that scorch the hills every summer. All we are able to gather is it has to do with UCLA and the Lakers, particularly in the Kareem championships era and if they mean to suggest John Wooden is a cult leader, we dig it.

Wounded Lion's IVXLCDM LP is out November 15 on In The Red.
