R.I.P. MC Breed

“Pimping is an All-American sport.” Here's to pimping in the after-life.

Early September MC Breed, born Eric Breed, was put on life support after kidney failure during a basketball game. Two days later the rapper was taken off life support, supposedly in a “good way.” His kidneys were only 30% functional and he would need a kidney transplant.

Saturday MC Breed was pronounced dead at a friend's house in Ypsilanti, MI, presumably related to his kidney failure. He was 37.

Between 1991 and 2004, Breed recorded 13 albums and collaborated with artists such as Tupac Shakur and Too Short. His breakout single “Ain't No Future In Yo' Frontin'” is a required listen for anyone claiming to be a true hip hop fan.

Since Obama's election I've kept this classic on heavy rotation, with special emphasis on the lyrics “If I was the President, believe I'd stay phat / leave it up to me I'll paint the White House black.”
