Killer Mike has been busy on the political circuit stumping for Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, but not so much so that he forgot his first calling. On Monday El-P, producer and other half of Run the Jewels, announced on Twitter that Run the Jewels 3 is “halfway done.” Additionally, El-P said the first song from the project will most likely be heard at the Coachella musical festival in roughly two weeks.
Last week on Instagram, El-P shared a four-second video of a song from the album, showcasing Killer Mike’s rugged flow. There’s little context given for the painfully short snippet, but Mike sounded in the midst of an aggressive rhyme over a thumping beat that’s typical of the two-man duo’s sonic offerings. Run The Jewels 2 was critically lauded upon its 2014 release, and the Hip-Hop world is anticipating the third studio album from the Brooklyn-ATL connection.
If the third project is true to form, not only should the album be full of unrestrained bravado, Killer Mike’s sprinkles of social commentary may have the impact of boulders after becoming the “unofficial campaign advisor” of a legitimate Presidential candidate.
