Slow Caves, "Glares"

Post Author: Sophie Kemp

The garage rock meets emo tinged, new single “Glares,” by Denver’s Slow Caves is all of that twinkly guitar goodness you need today. Slow Caves is a family affair, formed by two Danish brothers and their childhood friends. “Glares” is one of the first songs they ever wrote together as a band. From the very start of the song, we hear the band comes together: playing between multiple guitars, twang-y surf rock bass and great drumming.
Frontmen Jakob and Oliver Mueller riff off of each other, singing about nerves and trying to shake off criticism. They get deep, contemplating how they can defy people’s expectations of them without letting the backlash become a burden. Oliver and Jakob alternate between singing accompanying backing vocals and leading verses. The result is an undeniably catchy power ballad that you will make you want to shout along. With a sound somewhere between Lower Dens and Joyce Manor, “Glares,” does a great job showcasing the band’s ability to craft tight harmonies and do it in a way that feels effortlessly fun.
Says the band:

“Glares” was the first song we wrote together as a band. A lot of our earlier songs were constructed and recorded before we ever played them together. In Glares, you can hear the beginning of the sound we are striving for with Slow Caves. The song is about defying people’s expectations and obligations that are cast upon you. It can be scary and you are often met with unwanted explanations and criticisms from people. It’s pretty dynamic and moody which is something we can all relate to. It’s also really fun to jump around to and play live.
