The South African singer-songwriter conjured an intimate, emotional performance in Seattle

Indie singer-songwriter Alice Phoebe Lou, who hails from South Africa, has been conjuring richly emotional folk and pop soundscapes for nearly a decade, and her discography spans five excellent albums including last year’s Shelter. Last week in Seattle, the musician played a dynamic set to an enraptured crowd at The Showbox, with a setlist that included almost all of Shelter as well as a smattering from all the rest of her albums.

At one point, she commented that it was the first time she’d been to Seattle when it wasn’t raining, and later brought out opener Sam Burton to perform a cover of Gordon Lightfoot’s “Early Morning Rain.” You can scroll below for some of the highlights.
