Afropunk Festival 2015: Day 1

Post Author: Coen Rees

The eleventh edition of the annual Afropunk Festival returned to Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn, NY on Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23. On the first day on Saturday, August 22, there were live sets from RAAA, Adia Victoria, Lion Babe, Kimberly Nichole, SZA, Afropunk March for Trans Justice, Kelis, Suicidal Tendencies (who invited fans to join them on stage), DJ Rampage, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Death Grips, Grace Jones (who headlined the inaugural Fancy Dress Ball the previous evening), and more. Photographer Coen Rees attended the day long event and captured their performances for this gallery.

Photos from Afropunk’s Fancy Dress Ball on Friday are available here and photos from the second day of Afropunk 2015 are available here.

Afropunk manages to top themselves each year. We’re not sure how they do it but we really are grateful that they do.
