On Friday, Impose took the idea of the killer guitar pairs and multiplied it by ten - presenting the New York debut of Plastic Crimewave Vision Celestial Guitarkestra at Cake Shop. Twenty or so folks—including members of Vetiver, Espers, and Kid Millions of Oneida on drums—created a wave of sound that is still rippling through the Lower East Side even on this Monday morning. And it was for all intents and purposes one of the most epic things I have ever seen.
Prince Ruperts Drops interpretation of Fleetwood Mac meets Groundhogs blend was quite enjoyable to open the night, L.E.S. mainstay (and Thurston Moore collaborator) Samara Lubelski and band (The Bubble Electric) were superb, and the damaged Hawkwind-gone-hardcore shit that Puffy Areolas spewed fourth was the work of demented genius (and members of Tvyek), but it was the main event - led by the master of ceremonies himself, Plastic Crimewave - that will be talked about as one of the most incredible live experiences by all who attended.
