And And End, “Given All This Silence”

And And End – the ambient project by multi-instrumentalist/composer Andrew Thoreen – is bringing its trombone-centric work to the forefront. Having had extensive musical experience as a founding member of Har-di-Har and as a sideman in J.E. Sunde, Andrew can also be credited as a collaborator, arranger, composer, improvisor, educator, and producer in the arts. Given that his resume is so robust, we see his experimental rhythms as something to learn from, and we’re very keen on what he’s been creating. We’ve got the exclusive premiere of And And End‘s track “Given All This Silence” right now.

The song opens with a warped sound, almost like a heartbeat, to set its pace. Enter random sound effects – some, admittedly, off kilter – and waning, beautiful vocals. If The OC were still being made, we can imagine this song would receive placement by the wonderful Alexandra Patsavas, as it has that hard to define, quirky indie sound that is so often found in her work. The outstanding lyric is “You win some, you lose some”, among other notable words, as this song is all about straightforward truth.
