Bodies Be Rivers, “Making Plans” ft. Lacrymosa

Post Author:

Indie-pop Bodies Be Rivers and pianist/singer Lacrymosa have collaborated on a stellar new project. Inspired by a quote from Annie Dillard’s nonfiction book Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, the Light Falls 7” features Bodies Be Rivers’ “Making Plans” and Lacrymosa’s “Quiet Weather”. In addition to the vinyl release, a full EP will be available digitally with two additional songs, “Lit (prelude)” and “Intimate Distance” — one by each artist.

The songs were recorded and mixed in one weekend at Figure 8 studios in Brooklyn with mix engineer Sam Owens (Celestial Shore, Sam Evian). Additional mixing took place at Studio Radio 45 in Astoria by E. Scott Lindner and Henry Terepka (of Zula).

We’ve got the exclusive premiere for “Making Plans”, a whimsical, gorgeous song about shining light on a situation–as both tracks explore this concept of “light”–and, in turn, addresses regret and “stopping light from coming through.” It features crooning gilded vocals that are cradled by a mesh of layered hypnotic harmonies. “Shoulda took you home when I had the chance / Shoulda told you more when I had the chance” are just an example of the yearning that can be found in the lyrics. The instrumentals are simple, yet encapsulating, and make the song feel more personal. Memories are examined by savoring the textures and tastes of heartbreak, longing, and nostalgia, leaving the listener somber yet joyful.

There’s one thing we know for sure. We can’t wait until the release in August.

The vinyl 7″ (and digital EP which features two additional songs) will be released on August 26 via Gold Robot Records. You can preorder it nowThe release show is on August 29th at Manhattan Inn.
