Javelins, “Admiral Airwave” b/w “Secret Safe”

Since the release of their 2008 record Heavy Meadows, Detroit's dreamy three-piece Javelins have been relatively quiet. Though releases from the band have slowed, here we have the first evidence that Javelins hasn't fallen off entirely, and instead are proving that they're capable of coming back full force with something more than a minor offering. Their first seven-inch release is “Admiral Airwave” b/w “Secret Safe”, and though the signature mildly-lilted high-toned vocals are in place, both tracks are full of gauzy, dreamy almost-dance beats that allow for the original songwriting and definitive skills of the dreampoppy band to truly shine. Placing these two tracks together was no accident, either. They fit on the same release like milk and honey—smooth and affecting, dancy and fun, but introspective. This is a welcome return for a staple of the mid-00s.

You can pick up the forthcoming seven-inch through Suburban Sprawl Records on September 25.
