Kitty – “Rent a Smile”

London singer-songwriter crafts radiant pop anthem

“Rent a Smile” by Kitty radiates with the warmth of a summer day, offering a delightful pop anthem that captures the fleeting beauty of sunshine amidst gloomy English weather. London-based songwriter Kitty, accompanied by collaborators Macie Nyah, Emily Harbord, and producer Jules Konieczny, crafts a track that begins with a simple chord progression, gradually building into an ethereal chorus enveloped by breathy vocals.

In her trademark style, Kitty infuses the song with a mix of hope and introspection, acknowledging the temporary nature of happiness while urging listeners to revel in the moment. The track feels like a sunny picnic with friends, a sentiment echoed by Kitty herself as she reminisces about staying out late to watch the sunset and feeling complete after a day in the sun.

With her storytelling prowess honed from her days at the BRIT school, Kitty explains that “‘Rent a Smile’ is about that universal feeling of happiness when the sun comes out, especially with the gloomy English weather. There is a hint of a darker undertone to the song, alluding to the fact that the happiness might only be temporary, but to enjoy it while it’s here! I wrote it with my good friends Macie Nyah and Emily Harbord, and Jules Konieczny produced this third single from my EP. This song feels like a picnic with friends, staying out late to watch the sunset, getting burned, and feeling complete again after a day in the sun.”
