Mexico City band drops gorgeous second single off forthcoming LP Aprender a Ser

Mexico City band Mint Field have been conjuring gorgeous shoegaze-tinged psych sounds for a while now, with their last album being 2020’s stellar Sentimiento Mundial. With help from Ulrika Spacek’s Callum Brown on drums, the duo of Estrella del Sol and Sebastian Neyra have been busy recording and touring ever since, and now they’re gearing up to release follow-up LP Aprender a Ser on Oct. 27 via Felte. First we heard the album’s dreamy opening track “El Suspiro Cambia Todo”; today, Impose is thrilled to premiere the fantastic second single “Orquídea” along with its vibrant and intimate music video.

The track toes the line between shoegaze and dream pop with shimmering guitars and pulsating drums simmering alongside Estrella del Sol’s soothing vocals. The swirling instrumentals ebb and flow in hazy, hypnotic ways, working in tandem with the symbolism of the lyrics to explore the nostalgia and melancholy of every day life. It’s a haunting single with a lushness to it that inspires repeat listens.

Mint Field described the motifs of the track as, “Treasure, longing for the moment of seeing an orchid grow full size. Orchids are one of the most delicate flowers and most difficult to take care of. Watching when an orchid opens is a beautiful gift.”

There’s an emotional fragility to the song’s music video, directed by Rebeca Becerra Cusi and Sabrina Mercado Ocampo, which portrays Estrella and Sebastian in a dream-like bedroom setting sprinkled with plenty of bleary, meditative imagery. “We wanted to get closer to the beauty of the ephemeral, like the life of a flower,” the directors shared. “Love, spaces, people, have an end, and when they’re gone, they take us with it.”
