Tunic, "Eye Contact"

Post Author: Mike Mehalick

Loud and chaotic, sure, but underneath the crashing waves of sound and David Schallenberg’s (guitar/vocals) gravel-flecked delivery is a certain meditative quality to the latest from Tunic. Rounded out by Rory Ellis (bass) and Sam Neal (drums), the Winnipeg-based trio crafts wildly energetic, unhinged aural landscapes that lock in on tight, hypnotic grooves that ride a certain tension before being shredded apart at the seams.
Tunic is now prepping to drop a new EP, Boss, with Impose premiering its latest single, “Eye Contact,” today. Accompanied by a slow motion, single shot video, “Eye Contact” establishes a propulsive rhythmic bedrock that draws you in and allows you to lose yourself in the churning black sea of guitar squalls and noise.
“‘Eye Contact’ is the one odd ball song on Boss,” shares Schallenberg. “It’s the one song that is thematically different lyrically from the other three songs. It is sort of part two of our song ‘Disappointment’ from our past EP. It’s a continuation of examining this extremely unsuccessful relationship I was in a few years ago. Hence why the video is similar to our video for ‘Disappointment’, a slow moving image that is slightly odd or unsettling that allows the viewer to listen to the song and not be to disrupted by the video.”

Boss is out July 21st via self-release. Pre-order the 7″ here.
