Weepikes, “We Are Weepikes”

Michael Giordano

Weepikes

Weepikes formed in 1994 and called it quits in 1997. In 2010 they came together after 13 years apart and did not miss a beat. Now the Helsinki “pronk” four-piece is back again in 2013 with their album We Are Weepikes. A dark mix between kraut-rock and early indie rock, tracks like “Bad Valentine” combine dissonance between guitar and bass with a heavy but resolving chorus that embraces the mentality of their prideful mentality of their music (and album title): We Are Weepikes. An album that surely needs more than a dab of patience and perspective, features atonal talk-sing vocals, unaligned guitars and a whacked out artistic vision. While it pushes us out of our comfort zone, we experience something cohesive, creative and new, which is quite the accomplishment these days.

The self-released album We Are Weepikes is out now.
