The Soft Moon announce new album, drop first single

The Soft Moon Deeper

The Soft Moon’s Luis Vasquez has almost gone full Downward Spiral in the preparation of his new album under the moniker. His third LP, Deeper was written and recorded during a time of semi-intentional isolation: After “quitting the band” and moving to Venice, Italy in 2013, Vasquez found himself alone in this new, foreign surrounding and withdrew to write his most introspective album to date.

While names like Moroder and album-producer Maurizio Baggio are issued as talking points, it’s the dark work of Trent Reznor’s second album that seem a most-fitting reference. Like Downward Spiral, Deeper wants to take you down, underneath the layers. And if the first single, “Black”, is any indication, both rely heavily on layering drone to fill the background. Piled upon each other, these soothing textures become itching manifestations of paranoia. The only thing missing from Vasquez’s palette is the industrial clang.

Deeper will be available March 31 via Captured Tracks. You can listen to “Black” below.
