Guest Playlist: Cannons

Ahead of their Bleached Festival performance, the alt-pop superstars reel in summer with “vibe forward, melody-driven tracks”

Cannons were made for summer. Over the last few years, the Los Angeles trio – comprised of lead singer Michelle Joy, guitarist Ryan Clapham, and keyboardist/bassist Paul Davis – have broken through in a big way thanks to their glistening, chilled-out, dreamy brand of alt-pop. They’ve been a huge hit on tour and on the festival circuit, and they’re one of the few recent up-and-coming acts to score a bona-fide alt-radio hit; their sensual, sun-dazed, RIAA gold-certified anthem “Fire For You” has been a constant mainstay on the airwaves and playlists ever since it dropped over three years ago.

With summer festival season in full swing, the band is gearing up for a highly anticipated performance at the inaugural Bleached Festival in San Diego on August 6, where they’ll take the stage alongside other vibey acts such as Caroline Polachek, Yves Tumor and Aluna. To help us reel in those zoned-out summertime festival feels, Cannons are here to set the mood by compiling a playlist of some of their favorite songs of this year – including tracks from The Arcs, Remi Wolf, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Flipturn, and more.

“Vibe forward and melody driven tracks, we chose these songs as some of our new favorites this year, as they keep us inspired, and feel fresh yet reminiscent of the past,” they shared.

These songs not only exemplify the vibe that Cannons gravitate toward, but also the vibe that so many of the artists on the Bleached lineup strive for. It’s the perfect mix to usher in the spirit of an endless summer. You can dive right into that playlist below:

Bleached Festival goes down August 5-6 at Waterfront Park in downtown San Diego, with a groovy, laid-back lineup of acts culled from the alternative, indie pop, mid-tempo electronic, and new age R&B spheres. Neo-soul forerunner Leon Bridges will headline Saturday, with Japanese R&B superstar Joji headlining on Sunday. You can purchase tickets for the festival HERE, and check out the full lineup below:
