New Xiu Xiu album “approachable”

Post Author:
Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu

Perhaps Jamie Stewart's living up to the cuddly do-gooder entombed forever in his name, or maybe he just wants people to love him in press release form if they can't do it through his music. Either way, the new album, promised out January 29 on Kill Rock Stars and titled Women as Lovers, professes to be as smooth as Strawberry Jam:

Make no mistake. No other Xiu Xiu album has ever been more approachable or communicative on a basic human level. What people sometimes fail to recognize is that Stewart is writing about all of us, not a freak writing about freakish things. He voices what the rest of us have a hard time voicing and the feelings in the music are ones that we can all relate to.

Also noteworthy here is an appearance by Swans legend and Young Gods record prez Michael Gira, as well as a strange shout out to Kurt Stumbaugh (“i can feel the soil falling over my head”), a dude who's played in two Xiu Xiu related groups, Ten in the Swear Jar and IBOPA.
