Ex-Breathers, “Falling Away”

Post Author:

Earlier this month, Tallahassee’s Ex-Breathers released ExBx, an 11-minute 7-inch of rapid-fire hardcore that relents only for “Hang,” a brief interlude of dragging, doomy murk. “Falling Away,” from their upcoming Community Records split with Ovlov, Gnarwhal, and Woozy, finds the group crashing along at a middling tempo that recalls The Jesus Lizard or early Unwound. A muddy, driving bass figure sets the tone, joined shortly by restrained vocals and ominous drums. The vocal builds tension, like the first ten minutes of a horror film. When the guitar comes in, the song opens up wide, the vocals lose their restraint, the drums go full force. It’s a dark, blunt blast of something between catharsis and yelling at your parents. The track is below, along with all upcoming Ex-Breathers dates.
