Stephanie Franciotti, the mastermind behind the devastatingly gorgeous atmospheric synthpop of Sleep ∞ Over, has released the first track off of her upcoming debut LP, Forever. “Romantic Streams” feels as though someone wrapped the framework of a pop gem in lush, lo-fi texture, as Franciotti's haunting vocals cascade around the steady beats of a drum machine and a glittering expanse of synth. Halfway through, the sound dissolves into an epically sparse breakdown and builds its way back up to a climax (a-pop-theosis?), before fading away once more with a few desolate notes. It's a magical and somehow giddily melancholy experience, sort of like having a one-night stand with a very dreamy ghost.
